Cooler making noise in summer? Fix it at home in 5 minutes, the work will be done without any expense or mechanic.

In summer, cooler becomes an essential companion of every house. But suddenly when a sound like ‘gurgling’, ‘gurr-gurr’ or ‘bulb’ starts coming from the cooler, one loses sleep. Many people think that the cooler has broken down, but in most cases this sound comes due to normal reasons. Let us understand in simple language why this rumbling occurs in the cooler and how it can be fixed. The main reasons for the rumbling sound are lack or excess of water.

The most common reason is wrong water level. If there is very little water in the cooler then the pump sucks air. This creates a mixture of water and air which creates bubbles in the pipe and produces a thunderous sound. Even if the water is too full, due to overflow the water bounces in the pump and makes a sound.

air in pump

The water pump of the cooler moves water to the upper tray. If air enters the pump then water does not flow properly. Air bubbles rotate in the pipe and create a gurgling sound. This happens more when the cooler is switched off for a long time or air gets trapped in the pump while changing the water.

Dirt or blockage in pipes and nozzles

In summer, dust, soil and water minerals accumulate. Due to this small holes get blocked. When water passes through these holes with force, thunder occurs due to uneven flow.

Effect of strong fan wind

When the fan of the cooler runs fast, sometimes the air exerts pressure on the surface of the water. This causes movement of water and bubbles are formed in the pipe.

old or damaged pump

If the cooler is several years old then the pump becomes weak. It is unable to draw water properly and starts making noise.

How to fix it?

  1. First of all, drain the water from the cooler completely and clean the tank.
  2. Fill with clean water and keep the level correct (usually do not fill more than half).
  3. Check the pump. Remove air by shaking it up and down.
  4. Clean nozzles and water pipes. If there are blocks, clean them with a needle or brush.
  5. Keep changing the water every 15-20 days and keep the cooler covered so that dust does not enter.

When to call the serviceman?

If the noise does not stop even after taking the measures mentioned above, there is a burning smell coming from the pump or there is no water coming out at all, then call a professional serviceman. The pump or motor may be damaged.

Rumbling noise from the cooler is not a serious problem in most cases. This indicates lack of minor care. If you clean the cooler regularly, keep the water at the right level and get it serviced from time to time, the cooler will continue to produce cool air without any noise.

Proper care of the cooler in summer not only stops the noise but also increases its lifespan. Next time the cooler makes noise, don’t panic, just follow the steps mentioned above.
