BMW F 450 GS vs Himalayan 450: Price, Features and Power Comparison

BMW has launched its new adventure bike BMW F 450 GS in India, which directly competes with the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. This BMW bike targets the more premium segment, while the Himalayan 450 is a value-for-money ADV.

Talking about the price, the starting ex-showroom price of BMW F 450 GS is around ₹ 4.70 lakh, while the price of Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 starts at ₹ 3.05 lakh. The design of the BMW F 450 GS is completely based on the GS DNA, which features a muscular body, sharp fuel tank and premium finish. Its look is more modern and with international appeal. At the same time, the design of Himalayan 450 is more rugged and functional, which has been specially designed for off-roading and long journeys. It has a simple but strong body structure, which proves to be better according to Indian roads.

Features and Specifications

Advanced features are available in BMW F 450 GS. Like TFT display, riding modes, smartphone connectivity and better electronics package. It is more upmarket in terms of technology. Modern features have also been provided in Himalayan 450. Like TFT screen, navigation (Tripper), USB charging and switchable ABS, but its focus is on simple and user-friendly setup.

The BMW F 450 GS gets a steel trellis frame, 43mm USD front fork and 180mm suspension travel. Seat height is 845mm, which makes it a little tall. The Himalayan 450 also gets a trellis frame, but its suspension is more off-road oriented, with 200mm travel. Its seat height is 825mm, which makes it more accessible. This means that Himalayan can prove to be better on bad roads.

Engine and Performance

BMW F 450 GS has a 420 cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine, which gives approximately 46.9 bhp power and 43 Nm torque. This engine is smooth, high-performance and better for highway riding. On the other hand, Himalayan 450 gets a 452 cc single-cylinder Sherpa engine, which produces 39.4 bhp and 40 Nm torque. This engine is more suitable for low-end torque and off-roading.
