Is Wi-Fi working intermittently despite expensive plans? Increase speed in these waysZoom

No need to change router! These tricks will increase Wi-Fi speed

You have come up with an expensive plan, but the Wi-Fi speed is so slow that even the video is getting buffered. The sound is getting stuck in Zoom meetings and children are getting disturbed in online classes. This problem is very common. The good thing is that you can test your speed from your mobile while sitting at home and can also fix it with some easy methods. First do speed test

  • Download Speedtest by Ookla or Fast.com app in your mobile.
  • Run the test by connecting to Wi-Fi.
  • Check download, upload speed and ping.
  • If the download speed is less than 10 Mbps then there is definitely a problem.

3 easy and effective ways to improve Wi-Fi speed
1. Restart the router (the easiest and most effective way)

Turn off the power to the router for 30 seconds and then turn it back on. This clears the old cache and the speed often doubles. Do this at least twice a week.

2. Change the location of the router

Placing the router on the floor or in a corner weakens the signal. Keep it in the center of the house and at a height. Keep away from walls, cupboards or microwaves. If the router is in one room then try placing it in the middle room. Many times this one change makes a big difference in speed.

3. Change Wi-Fi channel

Many routers in your neighborhood are running on the same channel, which causes interference. Login to the settings of the router (192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)

Change the Wi-Fi Channel from Auto to 1, 6 or 11.

If 5GHz band is available, turn it on (for faster speed).

important tips

  1. Keep the router’s firmware updated.
  2. Disconnect unnecessary devices (old mobile, smart TV) from Wi-Fi.
  3. The 2.4GHz band travels farther but at lower speeds, while the 5GHz band is faster but has less range.
  4. If the router is 5-6 years old then consider buying a new one.
  5. Poor speed even after purchasing an expensive internet plan is a very disturbing thing. But by adopting the 3 easy methods mentioned above, restarting the router, changing location and changing the channel, you can improve your Wi-Fi speed to a great extent.

If the problem persists even after these methods, contact your internet provider.
