England all-rounder Liam Dawson announces First Class retirement

England all-rounder Liam Dawson announced his retirement from First Class with immediate effect to prolong his white-ball career on Wednesday.

Dawson played four Test matches for England. On his debut, he scored an unbeaten in India and took eight wickets. In white ball cricket, he has played nine ODIs and 32 T20Is, including the recently held T20 World Cup.

The 36-year-old played over 200 FC games for Hampshire where he scored over 10,000 runs and took more than 350 wickets.

“I’ve decided to retire from First-Class cricket. It’s a decision that I haven’t taken lightly but I feel for the benefit of prolonging my career in white ball cricket, the time is right,” Dawson said.

“I’m fully committed to playing white ball cricket for Hampshire and continuing the success we’ve had,” he added.

He scored 54 half-centuries and 17 hundreds, with a career-best innings of 171 coming in Hampshire’s victory over Kent at Canterbury in 2022.

Dawson will remain available for Hampshire in the Vitality Blast and One-Day Cup, where he has tasted success lifting six white ball trophies, including all three of Hampshire’s T20 titles.
