BYD has announced a price hike.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD India has announced to increase the prices of its passenger electric cars by 1 to 2 percent. This change will come into effect from July 1, 2026. The company has cited fluctuations in foreign exchange (Forex) as the main reason for this decision.

Rajeev Chauhan, head of BYD’s electric passenger vehicle business, said that this price update is being done due to foreign exchange fluctuations. This increase will affect the ex-showroom prices of the company’s popular models like Atto 3, eMax 7, Seal and Sealion 7. The price of some variants may increase by a maximum of Rs 1.1 lakh.

These customers are exempted from price hike

The good news for customers is that those booking in May and June 2026 will be able to get the car at the current prices, provided delivery is taken by July 31, 2026. After this, the new prices will be applicable on bookings made from July 1.

This is BYD’s second increase. In May 2026 itself, the company had increased prices by 3 percent, which was mainly related to the tense situation around the Strait of Hormuz. BYD is currently selling all its models in India in fully imported form. The company has 48 dealerships in 40 cities across the country.

Model-wise potential increase

  • BYD Atto 3 (Rs 24.99-33.99 lakh): Increases to a maximum of around Rs 68,000
  • BYD eMax 7 (Rs 26.90-29.90 lakh): Up to around Rs 60,000
  • BYD Seal (Rs 41-53.15 lakh): Up to Rs 1.06 lakh
  • BYD Sealion 7 (Rs 49.40-54.90 lakh): Up to Rs 1.10 lakh

Why is the price increasing?

Forex volatility remains a major challenge for the Indian EV market, as most companies import batteries and other components. Due to weakening of rupee the cost increases, the burden of which ultimately falls on the customer. To avoid the price hike made by BYD, customers can book early and take delivery at the current price before July 1.

market impact

BYD is expanding rapidly in the EV segment in India. Vehicles like Atto 3 and Seal are already popular among premium EV buyers. The increase in prices may have some impact on their demand. Especially when Tata, MG and other companies are offering EVs at competitive prices.
