Sony has launched its new flagship smartphone Sony Xperia 1 VIII in Japan, which is the latest model of the Xperia 1 series. This phone is currently available for pre-order and has been introduced in four color options – Garnet Red, Graphite Black, Lowlight Silver and Native Gold. Its starting price has been kept at JPY 2,35,400 (approximately ₹ 1,43,000), while the top variant with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage goes up to approximately ₹ 1,81,000.

This smartphone comes with a 6.5-inch full-HD+ OLED display, which has 120Hz refresh rate and HDR support. The design of the phone has also been changed and it has a square shaped camera module, which gives it a premium look.

Gets big storage
Talking about performance, it has Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which is made on 3nm process and is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. The special thing is that users can increase the storage up to 2TB through microSD card.

The company has also given a big upgrade in the camera section. Sony Xperia 1 VIII has a 48MP triple rear camera setup, which includes primary, ultra-wide and telephoto lens. The telephoto camera supports focal length up to 140mm, due to which even distant photos can be captured clearly. At the same time, it has a 12MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

Talking about the battery, it has a 5,000mAh battery, which supports both wired and wireless charging. For connectivity, it has 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6, NFC and USB Type-C port, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack, which is rarely seen these days. For security, it has been given a fingerprint scanner and IP65+IP68 rating, due to which it remains safe from water and dust.

This smartphone runs on Android 16 and the company is promising to provide OS updates for 4 years and security updates for 6 years. Sony Xperia 1 VIII is a premium flagship device, which comes with strong performance, advanced camera and great design, although its price may limit it to a certain category of users.
