WhatsApp will give alert on messages coming from unknown numbers, security will increase
WhatsApp is working on a new feature to further strengthen the security of its users. According to reports, the company may soon introduce a feature called Scam Alert, which will identify suspicious messages and warn users in advance. In view of the increasing cases of online fraud and cyber fraud, this feature can prove to be very useful.
Nowadays, fraudsters try to trap people by sending messages from unknown numbers. Many times they send fake messages in the name of a bank, government agency or any company and obtain personal information or money from people. To prevent such cases, WhatsApp is developing this new security feature.
According to the report, the Scam Alert feature of WhatsApp will work completely on the user’s device. This means that no chat will be sent to the servers of WhatsApp or its parent company Meta for checking the message. With this, the privacy of the users will be completely protected.
This feature will especially scan messages coming from unknown numbers. If the system detects signs of fraudulent or scam-like activity in a message, a warning banner will appear within the chat. This banner may read, “This message may be a scam.”
After this the user will have two options. First, he can immediately block and report that number. Second, if he feels that the message is secure, he can continue the conversation. That means the final decision will be completely in the hands of the user.
WhatsApp can also bring a local transparency report with this feature, through which the user will be able to see when and how many times the Scam Alert was activated. The special thing is that this information will also be stored only in the phone.
Testing is still going on
Currently this feature is in the development stage and has not been released even for beta testers yet. However, after its arrival, protection from online fraud and fake messages on WhatsApp may become easier than before. This feature will bring relief to crores of users who face messages coming from unknown numbers every day.
