DAY 2 REPORT
New Zealand’s Nathan Smith took a fine six-wicket haul, but it’s the host which is ahead at the end of Day 2’s play of the first Test at Lord’s.
After being bowled out for a paltry 113 earlier in the day, debutant Emilio Gay scored his maiden half-century to help England establish control early in the third innings.
However, Smith and Will O’Rourke struck at regular intervals to help New Zealand pull things back and bowl England out for 226. Chasing a target of 254, New Zealand lost three wickets in the space of 36 runs to close out the day’s play.
