As first reported by Sportstar, the BCCI has decided to permit Sooryavanshi’s parents to travel with him during the tour to help the 15-year-old adjust to a new environment as he prepares for his maiden assignment with India’s senior men’s team.
Welcoming the move, Ganguly described it as a sensible decision by the Board.
“It’s a good decision by the BCCI. Vaibhav is a special talent, and everybody can see that. And if his parents accompany him on such a big tour, it will be a lot easier for him to adjust. It’s a good move by the Board,” Ganguly told Sportstar on Sunday.
The former India captain believes that having his parents around will help the teenager settle in comfortably during what promises to be a significant phase in his young career.
At a time when expectations around Sooryavanshi continue to soar following his rapid rise through the ranks, Ganguly urged caution and stressed the importance of allowing the youngster to grow without unnecessary pressure.
Asked how the prodigious batter should be managed, Ganguly offered a simple answer: “Just let him be. He is a special talent.”
The BCCI’s decision comes as Sooryavanshi prepares to experience international cricket and life on the road with the national team for the first time. While the teenager’s talent has already attracted widespread attention, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had earlier told Sportstar that the Board had decided to allow Sooryavanshi’s parents to accompany him so that they could help him settle into the unfamiliar surroundings during the tour.
Ganguly also backed Shreyas Iyer as the new T20I captain, saying it’s a step in the right direction.
