A commanding batting display led by sisters Sarah and Kathryn Bryce, followed by heroics with the ball from Kirstie Gordon helped Scotland beat Ireland by 40 runs at Old Trafford to register its maiden win in the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Scotland made its tournament debut in 2024 but finished at the bottom of its group after losing all its games.

On Saturday, Scotland was asked to bat in windy conditions in Manchester by Ireland captain Gaby Lewis. While the side lost its first two wickets within the PowerPlay, a 106-run stand in 64 balls between the Bryce sisters

This was followed by a disciplined bowling effort led by Kirstie Gordon and Katherine Fraser who took three wickets each. Skipper Kathryn pitched in with two wickets too, never allowing Ireland to really settle in the chase.

Ireland has now played 18 T20 World Cup fixtures and is yet to register a win.
