BFI prez steps in to add two pugilists in World Boxing Cup squad

Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh has stepped in to facilitate the participation of boxers Jyoti (48kg) and Aakash (75kg) at the upcoming World Boxing Cup 2026 (Stage 2) in Guiyang, China.

With the tournament set to commence on Monday, the two boxers were not part of the final government-sanctioned contingent. BFI President Ajay stepped in to ensure their participation.

The decision will enable Jyoti and Aakash to join the Indian team in Guiyang, providing them with valuable international exposure and an opportunity to compete against top-level opposition while earning important ranking points on the international circuit.

With the inclusion of Jyoti and Aakash, India’s contingent for World Boxing Cup Stage 2 in Guiyang has been expanded from 18 to 20 boxers, comprising 10 men and 10 women.

Talwar lies T-34 at Interwetten Open

Saptak Talwar had just one birdie and one bogey on his card as he shot an even-par 69 at the Interwetten Open, dropping to T-34 with rounds of 64-69 and a total of 5-under.

Lars van der Vight of the Netherlands took the lead after carding a 7-under 62. He has a total score of 12-under par.

Talwar began his second round on the first tee and played the first 15 holes at par before dropping a stroke on the 16th hole. A birdie on the 18th helped him close the round with an even-par score.

Veer Ahlawat shot a bogey-free second round of 4-under 65, including four birdies. However, his first-round score of 2-over 71 held him back, as the cut for this week was set at 3-under par, and Ahlawat, with a total of 2-under par (71-65), missed it by one stroke.

Sandhu top Indian, Bhullar and Kochhar make cut in Morocco; Bubba Watson leads

Ajeetesh Sandhu carded a bogey free 3-under 70 to emerge as the top Indian at the halfway stage of the USD 2 million International Series Morocco golf tournament here.

Sandhu, who shot 1-under 72 in the first round, is now 4-under and Tied-25th, as four-time Am Green IGPL winner, Gaganjeet Bhullar (74) slipped down to T-47 despite a run of four straight birdies on the front nine.

Another AM Green IGPL winner, Karandeep Kochhar (72-72), at T-47, was the only other Indian to make the cut.

Seven of the 10 Indians, who started missed the cut and they included Shauryra Bhattacharya, SSP Chawrasia and Anirban Lahiri, who all missed the mark by one shot.

Rashid Khan, Aryan Roopa Anand and Udayan Mane were the others to make an early exit.

Anvitha holds her nerve to win tense play-off for her 2nd title on WPGT

Anvitha Narender stayed composed under pressure at the finish, prevailing in a tense playoff to clinch her second title in the seventh leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour in Mysuru.

The young Bengaluru golfer showed great resilience to stage a back-nine recovery and then beat the seasoned Vani Kapoor in the second hole of the dramatic play-off.

Anvitha carded 1-under 69 as Vani charged up with a 6-under 64 and both and both were tied at one-under 209. She then birdied the second play-off hole to take the title.

Sujata becomes first-ever woman centurion in Bengal T20 League

Opener Sujata Dey struck a stroke-filled unbeaten hundred to become the first-ever woman centurion of the Bengal T20 League and help Adamas Howrah Warriors post a convincing 54-run win over Sobisco Smashers Malda at the Jadavpur University ground in Kolkata.

Saha, who confidently ruled the on-side and got two reprieves, and Karan added 89 runs for the third wicket as Strikers put up a strong total.

Left-arm spinners Akhilesh Yadav and Vishal Bhati captured three wickets apiece while Saha effected three dismissals behind the stumps in Strikers’ win.

Later in the day, riding on a fine all-round performance, Murshidabad Kings outclassed Kolkata Royal Tigers by 57 runs in the Bengal T20 League Season 3 at Eden Gardens.

Batting first, Murshidabad Kings posted a challenging 198/4 in their 20 overs. Rishabh Chaudhary starred with 78 off 42 deliveries, while Aditya Sharma smashed 72 off 43 to lay the foundation for a big total.

For Kolkata Royal Tigers, Sourav Halder bagged two wickets.

In reply, Kolkata Royal Tigers finished on 141/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Ritwik Roy Chowdhury top-scored with 40 off 33 balls, while Toufik Uddin Mondal and Irshad Alam picked up two wickets each for Murshidabad Kings.

Andhra Premier League: Bulls trounce Lions, Royals and Warriors play out thriller

Bhimavaram Bulls registered an emphatic 104-run win against Vizag Lions in an Andhra Premier League clash at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Half-centuries by K. Revanth Reddy (58, 34b, 7×4, 2×6) and B. Sathwik (63, 29b, 8×6) helped Bulls set a 220-run target. Lions barely got the chase going, as B. Yeswanth’s five-wicket (3.5-0-15-5) haul bundled them out for 115.

On Friday, Royals of Rayalaseema and Tungabhadra Warriors played out a nail-biter, with the latter emerging victorious on the final balls of the chase.

S. Dhuva Kumar Reddy (51, 30b, 3×4, 4×6) and S.K. Rasheed (41, 31b, 7×4) helped Royals post 148. Warriors’ chase was a combined effort and it looked to be heading towards a Super Over, when a bye on the final delivery of the innings sealed the win.
