Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks record for fastest List A fifty during India A vs Sri Lanka A final

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed a 11-ball fifty for India A against Sri Lanka A in the Tri-Series final in Dambulla on Sunday.

This is now the fastest fifty ever in List A cricket, breaking the record of Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne, who scored a 12-ball fifty in 2005.

Opening the batting for India A, Sooryavanshi cracked five fours and five sixes each as he reached his half-century.

The 15-year-old got to the landmark with a six down the ground against left-arm pacer Dulaj Samuditha, marking his first fifty with India A.

Coming into the series, plenty of focus was placed on Sooryavanshi. The youngster was firmly in the spotlight after being called up to the India senior team for its tours of England and Ireland.

But, he had flattered to deceive in the Tri-Series until his blitzkrieg in the final.

Sooryavanshi fell just six runs short of a hundred, when he was caught at mid-off while trying to go over the top against off-spinner Sahan Arachchige. The Indian opener walked back after having scored 94 from just 29 deliveries.
