England XI for third Test vs New Zealand — Stokes, Atkinson return among four changes


England Test captain Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson will return to the playing XI for the final Test of its three-match series against New Zealand at Trent Bridge beginning on Thursday.

Stokes and Atkinson’s returns are among four changes the side makes, with Jamie Smith and Shoaib Bashir also back into the side.

James Rew, Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker, and Matthew Fisher all make way. Stokes also returns as captain, replacing interim skipper Joe Root.

The series is currently tied at 1-1 after England won the first Test at Lord’s and New Zealand won the second at The Oval.

Emilio Gay, Ben Duckett, Jacob Bethell, Joe Root (c), Harry Brook, Jamie Smith, Ben Stokes, Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
