E85 Fuel Launch: Various discussions have started on social media regarding E85 fuel. Many people fear that now their E20 cars will become useless or they will stop getting normal petrol. But the government has completely rejected these apprehensions. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has clearly said that E85 and E20 are for different types of vehicles. In such a situation, there is no need for existing petrol and E20 vehicle owners to panic.
E85 Fuel launched
E85 Fuel Launch: On the occasion of World Environment Day (5 June), the Central Government has launched E85 fuel. After this, a rumor is spreading rapidly on social media that old vehicles will get damaged due to the introduction of E85 fuel by the government. Some people are even claiming that the availability of normal petrol and diesel will stop and everyone will be forced to use E85 petrol. But now the government itself has come forward and clarified on these things.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has termed these claims as false. Puri has clarified that E85 petrol is not for every vehicle, rather it is made only for specific types of vehicles.
What is E85 petrol and how is it different from E20?
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the government launched E85 fuel. The biggest difference between the two is the amount of ethanol (a type of eco-friendly fuel) found in it. Currently, the E20 petrol that is put in our vehicles contains 20% ethanol and 80% normal petrol. At the same time, the new E85 fuel will contain 80% to 85% ethanol and only 14% to 19% petrol.
Can you put E85 petrol in your old car?
The direct answer is – absolutely not. Normal petrol or E20 vehicles cannot handle this fuel. E85 petrol is only for purpose-built ‘flex-fuel vehicles’ (FFVs). To encourage people to adopt this fuel, the government has kept it cheaper than normal petrol by about Rs 20 per liter. Its price in Delhi has been fixed at Rs 82.12 per liter. Besides, this will also reduce pollution by 61%.
No need to worry: what did the government say?
If you have a fear in your mind that your existing car will become useless, then Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “Your E20 car will run comfortably for a long time. The arrival of E85 does not at all mean that E20 or normal petrol vehicles will stop. Big boards will be installed on E85 machines at petrol pumps, on which it will be written – ‘Only for E85 cars.'”
The country will become self-reliant
He further said that this fuel has been in use for years in countries like Brazil. Vehicles with flex-fuel engines can easily run on petrol containing 20% to 100% ethanol. This will increase the income of our farmers, India will have to buy less crude oil from other countries and the country will become self-reliant. Now 100% indigenous flex-fuel vehicles are also being launched in India.
