By regular checking of your car and minor repairs before the arrival of monsoon, you can not only keep your vehicle safe but also avoid costly damages. Braking distance increases due to slippery road conditions, low visibility and water. Therefore, it is important to keep important things like tyres, brakes, wipers and battery in good repair. With proper preparation, you will be able to drive comfortably and safely even in monsoon.
Tire and brake inspection
Tire grip is most needed during monsoon. Tire tread should be at least 1.6 mm deep. Replace worn tires. Keep the air pressure correct, because less air increases slipping. Get brake pads, discs and brake fluid checked. If there is noise in the brakes or the vehicle is pulling to one side, then immediately go to the mechanic.
Battery and Electrical System
Moisture spoils the battery quickly. Clean the battery terminals and get the charge checked. All lights (headlight, taillight, brake light) and indicators should be working. There should not be any looseness or rust in the wiring. This is necessary to avoid sudden battery shutdown during monsoon.
Wipers, Windshield and Lights
Replace old wiper blades as they do not clear water during rain and visibility reduces. There should be no cracks on the windshield. The headlights and fog lights should be clean and at the right angle. Keep washer fluid filled.
Engines, Fluids and Sealing
Get engine oil, brake oil, coolant and power steering fluid checked. Check the rubber sealing of the doors, bonnet and windows of the car so that water does not enter inside. Keep the air filter clean or replaced, as moisture causes the filter to deteriorate quickly.
Internal cleaning and emergency kit
Clean mattresses and floor mats inside the car. Moisture can cause fungus. Always keep an emergency kit in the car containing a torch, first aid box, tow rope, waterproof clothing and extra water. By adopting these tips, you can keep your car safe and in good condition for a long time during monsoon.
