Checking online status on WhatsApp will become easier!

WhatsApp is testing a new Green Dot feature for its users, which will make it easier than ever to find out whether a contact is currently online or not. Currently, this feature has been made available to select iPhone beta users and in the coming time it can be extended to more users.

According to the report, when a user is active on WhatsApp, a green dot will appear below his profile photo. As soon as he goes offline, this dot will automatically disappear. With this, there will be no need to open chat again and again to see someone’s online status.

At present WhatsApp has limited this feature only to the Contact Info screen. That is, Green Dot will appear only after going into a chat and tapping on the user’s name or profile photo. Currently it is not visible in the main chat list or chat window. WhatsApp often tests new features on a limited level first and if successful, releases them for all users.

This feature is currently available for some users using WhatsApp Beta for iOS version 26.26.10.72. Earlier it was also seen in Android beta version.

Will privacy be affected?
WhatsApp says that Green Dot will follow your existing privacy settings only. If you have hidden your Online Status from a specific person or everyone, then those users will not see the Green Dot on your profile. That means this feature does not share any new information, but only shows the current online status as a simple visual indication.

When will all users get it?
Right now this feature is in testing stage. If it is successful, then WhatsApp can release it for all Android and iPhone users in the coming months. However, the company has not yet announced its official launch date.
