The Government of India had issued a notice to Meta in the advertisement case related to sexual exploitation of children.

Following the Central Government’s crackdown on advertisements allegedly promoting child sexual exploitation content on Instagram, Meta has said that sexual exploitation of children is a despicable crime and it is taking strict action against content related to it on all its platforms. According to Meta, 1.60 lakh suspicious accounts have been removed in India in the last 6 months.

Last week, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had issued a notice to Meta asking it to remove all advertisements and content related to child sexual abuse material on Instagram. The ministry has sought a reply from the company within seven days. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had ordered officials to summon Meta. The effect of the strictness of the Central Government is clearly visible. Now Meta has told what steps it is taking to prevent sexual exploitation of children and online crimes.

Identification of suspicious content through AI

According to Meta, 1.60 lakh suspicious accounts have been removed in India in the last 6 months. With the help of AI, suspicious links, activities related to child exploitation and suspicious behavior are identified. Through this technology, last year more than 40 lakh suspicious accounts were removed from Facebook and Instagram across the world.

According to Meta, advertisements are also checked so that such networks or wrong content are not promoted. Meta said that even before the issue was raised by the government or other agencies, its automated system had closed the advertisements and the accounts related to them that violated the rules.
