
PUNE: A three-storey administrative building at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant in Moshi collapsed on Wednesday after a heap of garbage reportedly fell onto the structure, trapping an estimated 19 people under the debris.In an official statement, the PCMC said the incident occurred at around 1.30 pm at the Moshi garbage depot. Four people have been rescued safely so far, while efforts are underway to rescue the remaining trapped workers.The building housed the administrative offices of the civic body’s Waste-to-Energy project, and several employees were inside when the structure gave way.Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the PCMC fire brigade and the police are carrying out search-and-rescue operations. The Army has also been called in to assist.Mayor Ravi Landge, Municipal Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi and Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey are at the site overseeing the rescue operation.Authorities are yet to confirm the final number of people trapped or report any fatalities or injuries. Rescue operations are continuing.
