Chennai Super Kings parts ways with head coach Stephen Fleming

Chennai Super Kings and Stephen Fleming have decided to mutually part ways, bringing to a close one of the most successful and enduring partnerships in the history of the Indian Premier League.

According to a release from CSK, the decision was reached with respect and gratitude, following a series of open and honest discussions between Fleming and the Super Kings management.

Fleming had been under fire in the last few years after CSK failed to qualify for the Playoffs in the last three seasons since it’s title-winning campaign in 2023.

The former New Zealand skipper joined the Chennai outfit as a player in 2008 before becoming head coach in 2009. He has guided CSK to five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles. The team has entered the playoffs a record 12 times, while also being part of 10 IPL finals.

However, recently Fleming’s reputation has come into question, considering all of CSK’s titles have come under MS Dhoni’s leadership. CSK has also been struggling to keep pace with the way T20 has evolved.

Fleming has also been at the helm of Joburg Super Kings in SA20 and the Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket. However, the other two franchises have never tasted success under him. The announcement comes in the wake of TSK finishing last in MLC this year.
