Ireland appoints Jonathan Trott on short-term consultancy role

Ireland has appointed Jonathan Trott on a short-term consultancy role of 14 days ahead of its ODI series against Afghanistan.

Trott had previously coached Afghanistan for a period of four years between 2022 and 2026, when he stepped down in February.

Following the departure of Heinrich Malan, who left the role of head coach following the historic 2-0 T20I series win over World Champion India, Ireland roped in Gary Wilson.

Wilson became the first Irish-born head coach of the men’s team in 30 years.

The five-match ODI series against Afghanistan will begin on August 5 in Magheramason.
