Confirming the development, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that both support staff members have completed their contractual tenure with the national team.
“Both their contracts were over during the recent England and Ireland tours, and we are not extending their contracts,” Saikia told Sportstar.
The decision marks the end of a two-year stint for ten Doeschate, who joined Gautam Gambhir’s coaching set-up after India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2024. While Dilip had received a one-year extension last season, ten Doeschate’s contract was allowed to lapse, with sources indicating that the former Netherlands international was not keen on continuing in a role that demanded prolonged periods away from home.

As Sportstar had reported earlier, the 45-year-old is now expected to return to Kolkata Knight Riders, where he enjoyed a highly successful coaching stint before joining the Indian team. With his family based in London, ten Doeschate was understood to be looking for a role involving significantly less travel, allowing him to spend more time with them.
His return to the IPL is expected to be a seamless one. Having played a key role in KKR’s coaching group and then spending two years with the Indian team, ten Doeschate has further strengthened his reputation as one of the game’s most respected modern-day coaches. His experience across franchise and international cricket makes him one of the most sought-after names in the coaching circuit.

Subhadeep Ghosh frontrunner for India fielding coach’s role?
The BCCI, meanwhile, has already begun the process of finding a replacement for Dilip. With the Indian team set to leave for Sri Lanka shortly, the Board is keen to have the new support staff in place before preparations for the two-Test series get underway.
“We are in conversation with a couple of people for the fielding coach’s role and we will finalise things soon,” Saikia said.
While the BCCI has cast its net wide, multiple sources indicated that Subhadeep Ghosh has emerged as the leading contender for the role. It is learnt that a few other coaches from the Centre of Excellence, along with some former cricketers, are also in the mix, but Ghosh appears to have the edge.

One factor working in his favour is his familiarity with the Indian set-up. A former first-class cricketer from Assam, Ghosh has spent several years at the BCCI Centre of Excellence and has worked across different levels of Indian cricket. He has previously been part of the Under-19 and senior women’s support staff, besides accompanying the India-A team on its recent tour of Sri Lanka.
Whether the Board offers him a long-term contract or opts for an interim arrangement remains to be seen. However, with India’s international calendar resuming with the Sri Lanka Tests next month, the BCCI is expected to take a final call on the appointment within the next couple of days.
