WWE SummerSlam Night 1 live results: Updates, grades, analysis for CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes

WWE SummerSlam 2026, WWE’s second-biggest annual show, kicks off tonight — Saturday, Aug. 1 — at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Featuring 12 matches — seven with championships on the line — across two nights, SummerSlam is likely to shake up the WWE landscape for the rest of 2026.

Night 1 will feature six bouts, headlined by an Undisputed WWE Championship clash pitting CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes as well as a rubber match between Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar, the latter of which will take place inside Hell in a Cell.

On the women’s side, Liv Morgan will defend her Women’s World Championship against Iyo Sky, who earned her opportunity by defeating Morgan in June to win the Queen of the Ring tournament. It’ll be the lone televised title defense for Morgan since she won the championship at WrestleMania 42 in April.

SummerSlam will also mark the highly-anticipated WWE in-ring debut for Nick Aldis, who until now has acted as the on-screen general manager for “WWE SmackDown.” Aldis will take on Gunther after costing Gunther a shot to be added to the Punk-Rhodes main event by interfering in a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event last month.

Finally, there will be two trios matches on the card. For the men, The Usos and Jacob Fatu take on LA Knight, Royce Keys and Solo Sikoa in a bit of a Bloodline side quest, while, for the women, Fatal Influence takes on The Bella Twins and Paige.

  WWE released a video package — narrated by Paul Heyman — about Brock Lesnar’s life/career. After seemingly retiring after his match at WrestleMania 42, Lesnar returned for two more matches (including Saturday’s). If this is the end, it’ll cap off one of the most dominant careers in not just WWE, but all of combat sports.
