After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Sophie Ecclestone dealt an MI London without Danni Wyatt-Hodge a massive blow by striking twice in the first five balls, dismissing openers Alice Davidson-Richards and Hayley Matthews.
The early wickets set the tone as MI London was shot out for a paltry 92 all out from its 99 balls. Kira Chathli was the top scorer with just 18, while Ryana MacDonald-Gay was the pick of the bowlers with three for 19.
Smriti set the tone early in the chase with 34 from 27 balls in an opening stand worth 73 with skipper Meg Lanning. She eventually fell after picking out midwicket. Richa Ghosh took her place at the crease but fell for four from five balls. MSG would eventually win by six wickets with 28 balls to go.
Earlier in the day, Deepti Sharma’s Sunrisers Leeds suffered a close defeat to Trent Rockets. Deepti could not pick a wicket in her 10 balls, conceding 17 runs, as Sophia Dunkley’s 56 led the Rockets to 139 for seven in its 100 balls.
In the chase, Annabel Sutherland scored an impressive 59 from 30 balls, but it came in vain as SRL fell five runs short.
