Indians at the Hundred, Matchday 17: Smriti, Richa fall cheaply in Manchester Super Giants’ three-wicket loss

Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh had an ordinary outing with the bat in the latest round of fixtures of the Hundred.

Batting first, the Super Giants were restricted to a paltry 85/9 by Welsh Fire at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Orla Prendergast, who came in as a replacement for the injured Sophie Devine, was the standout performer with the ball as she ran through the Super Giants’ batting lineup with a four-wicket haul (4/18).

Smriti was run out when she was batting on 15 off 17 balls, in an innings where the southpaw managed to find the boundary only once and struggled to get going. In the ongoing edition, the 28-year-old has scored 158 runs from five matches, including one half-century.

Richa Ghosh was dismissed cheaply too (11 off 19 balls), as her poor run of form continued. The wicket-keeper has scored just 47 runs from five matches this season at a strike rate of just over 100.

In the second innings, it was Sophie Ecclestone’s turn to cause problems with the ball as her three-wicket haul (3/14) put Welsh Fire in a spot of bother.

However, Heather Graham (16* off 17 balls) and Rhianna Southby (8* off 7 balls) kept their calm to help Fire cross the line with three wickets and nine balls to spare in a nervy chase.
