Deepak Hooda is set to return to Baroda after five years, having been roped in by the state association for the upcoming domestic season.

“I have played for Baroda for a long time and it’s good to be back. I have decided to move back to Baroda and I’m looking forward to a new stint,” Hooda told Sportstar.

Hooda’s previous stint with Baroda ended on an acrimonious note in 2021. Ahead of that year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he had written to the Baroda Cricket Association alleging that then captain Krunal Pandya had abused and intimidated him during a team camp. Hooda subsequently opted out of the tournament and was suspended by the association after the fallout.

He then moved to Rajasthan, where he continued his domestic career over the next few seasons. The episode with Krunal, however, did not permanently affect their relationship. The two eventually patched things up and later became teammates at Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.

Hooda, who made his first-class debut for Baroda, will now return to the team after five years. In the intervening period, he has added to his experience through his stint with Rajasthan and his IPL career.

His return gives Baroda an experienced all-round option ahead of the new domestic season.
