India will face Japan in a one-off men’s T20I match on September 22, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, announced BCCI on Friday.

The winner of the match, which will be played at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture, will be awarded the Suzuki Cup.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said: “The BCCI is delighted to be part of this historic occasion as the Indian and Japanese men’s teams come together for a special T20 International in Japan. This is a significant moment for cricket, as it takes the Indian team to new territory and provides an opportunity to introduce the sport to a wider audience in Japan and East Asia.”

This match marks the launch of “Sport 75,” an initiative from an agreement between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance sports cooperation and exchanges between India and Japan.

The Indian T20I team will be in Japan for the upcoming Asian Games, with the side scheduled to play its quarterfinal on September 28.
