Devdutt Padikkal completed his second successive century against Sri Lanka during the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo on Sunday.
Padikkal reached his second ton — following up on his 167 in first Test in Galle — off just 168 balls with the help of 10 fours.
The number three batter entered the crease in the 11th over when KL Rahul got out. Padikkal then added 29 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal, then 120 runs with captain Shubman Gill, 21 with Rishabh Pant, before Ravindra Jadeja joined him in the 58th over.
Padikkal’s centuries in two consecutive away Tests are first by an India number three since Cheteshwar Pujara, who hit 106 and 193 in Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
The left-hander batter eventually fell, cleaned up while taking on spinner Keshara Nuwantha, after scoring 117 runs off 193 balls.
