Abid Mushtaq and Nishant Sindhu on Wednesday picked the remaining three West Zone wickets to secure North Zone a victory by 52 runs in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal in Bengaluru.
Inside seven overs on the fourth day, Mushtaq picked Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande while Sindhu pinned Urvil Patel in front as West folded on 234.
Urvil, the last recognised batter, could perhaps have been more prudent in his approach than opting for the lavish slog sweep that led to his wicket. His dismissal meant West had collapsed to defeat from 195 for three, losing seven wickets for just 39 runs.
Mushtaq, the J&K left-arm orthodox, ended the game with four wickets in the second innings and nine for the game.
North Zone will now take on previous edition’s runner-up South Zone in the semifinal, beginning on Sunday. The other semifinal will take place between Central Zone and East Zone.
