Hampshire Cricket announced on Wednesday that New Zealand cricketer Scott Kuggeleijn will not represent the club in the County Championship.
The club had added the all-rounder to its squad for the contest against Warwickshire beginning on September 2, but faced intense criticism from its own fans.
“Having reflected and listened to feedback from our staff and supporters, Hampshire Cricket can confirm that Scott Kuggeleijn will not represent the Club,” the club said via a statement.
“We value the passion of our fanbase and thank everyone who took the time to share their views,” it added.
Pacer Kuggeleijn has represented New Zealand in all three formats, but last played a game for the Kiwis in 2024. He was charged in 2015 with sexual assault and was acquitted after a second trial following a hung verdict in the first.
Hampshire is currently bottom of Division One standings and are 16 points behind Leicestershire.
