Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was handed an official reprimand by the ICC for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct on the second day of the second Test against India here on Monday.
After being dismissed, Jayasuriya had flung his gloves and he was adjudged as having breached Article 2.2 which relates to ‘abuse of cricket equipment’. He also suffered one demerit point.
Jayasuriya admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft.
The incident occurred off the final delivery on day two when Jayasuriya was dismissed by Manav Suthar. He struck his bat on the boundary wedges on his way back to the pavillion.
He’s the third player to get sanctioned in the ongoing match after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando, who were fined 25 per cent of their fee and one demerit point following a heated exchange on the opening day.
