Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq, according to reports, is unlikely to take any further part in the ongoing Lord’s Test against England after suffering a grade-one tear in his left calf.
The injury is expected to keep Imam out for around 10 days. Cricinfo reported that the batter underwent scans at the end of the opening day after remaining off the field following tea, with the results confirming the extent of the injury.
Imam has not taken the field since then, with Salman Agha replacing him as a substitute.
Pakistan’s team management had initially described Imam’s problem as a “strain to his left calf muscle” and said his involvement would depend on how he responded to treatment.
Imam did make an attempt to assess his fitness ahead of the fourth day’s play. With his left calf heavily strapped, he took part in a brief session of gentle throwdowns. However, his movement appeared restricted, according to Cricinfo, and he soon walked back towards the dressing room, accompanied by members of the support staff.
The injury dates back to the first Test at Headingley, where Pakistan suffered a heavy innings-and-103-run defeat.
Imam’s potential absence for Pakistan’s second innings at Lord’s leaves the visitor facing another major challenge. England ended the third day with a lead of 357 runs, leaving Pakistan with a daunting task if it is to square the three-match series.
