India has announced its squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, with the two sides set to face off in Delhi from September 13 to 17. All three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
There are no major surprises in the squad. Sanju Samson returns after missing the Zimbabwe tour, while Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been included subject to fitness clearance.
Varun Chakaravarthy returns after his foot injury, but the series will come too soon for Hardik Pandya.
The series comes at an important juncture for India, which is looking to regain momentum in the shortest format after a difficult run of results despite being the reigning T20 world champion. India was beaten 2-0 by Ireland in Belfast before suffering a 4-0 series defeat against England, with one match washed out. It also lost the subsequent ODI series in England 2-1.
However, India will enter the Afghanistan series on the back of a 3-0 T20I series win in Zimbabwe.
Afghanistan, meanwhile, has not played a T20I since the T20 World Cup in India earlier this year. It won two of its four matches but failed to progress to the Super Eight stage.
The Afghanistan series will also be its first T20I assignment against India since their previous meetings in the format, while the two teams most recently met in June, when India completed a 3-0 ODI series sweep after winning the one-off Test by an innings and 300 runs.
