Leg-spinner Karn Sharma announced his retirement from India and domestic cricket late on Saturday. The 38-year-old had played four matches — one Test, two ODIs, and a T20I — for India.

Karn made his decision public after playing a UPT20 League match where he was representing Kanpur Superstars. He will play his last match against Meerut Mavericks on August 25 in Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium.

“I just want to retire. I will be playing my last game on Tuesday, and I will be retiring from all formats,” Karn said in his announcement. “After this, I will be available for coaching and other responsibilities related to the game of cricket,” he added.

“To all those who supported me, I just want to say thanks. My family, the BCCI, Railways, UPCA, Andhra, all those who have supported me in this journey, I am really grateful.”

Karn, who hails from Meerut, made his international in all formats in 2014. He played his only Test against Australia in Adelaide, and one T20I in Birmingham against England. Karn played his two ODI against Sri Lanka in the same year.

A domestic veteran, Karn walks away with 270 wickets in 97 First-Class matches, 153 wickets in 123 List-A games, and 168 wickets in 191 T20s.

He represented Railways, Andhra and Vidarbha in the domestic competition after starting out his age-group cricket with Uttar Pradesh.

Karn has the accolade of becoming the first player to win three consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) titles: Sunrisers Hyderabad (2016), Mumbai Indians (2017) and Chennai Super Kings (2018). His fourth IPL title came with CSK in 2021.
