The new BCCI junior cricket committee, apart from selecting and grooming Under-22 players, will have an added responsibility of educating and promoting the youngsters about ethical values about the dangers of drugs, betting, and match-fixing.

The Indian cricket board has invited applications for five positions since the five-year tenure of current committee — S Sharath (South, chairman), Krishan Mohan (North), Ranadeb Bose (East), Pathik Patel (West) and Harvinder Singh Sodhi (Central) — is coming to an end.

Part of the committee’s responsibilities would be selection of U-22 players in a transparent manner, talent identification, scouting, selection of coaches & support staff, and organising and conducting junior tournaments and overseas tours.

However, in an added responsibility, the committee will need to promote “strong ethical values among young cricketers, including awareness around issues such as drugs, betting, and match-fixing, through interactions with senior and former players,” the release stated.

The interested applicants should’ve played a minimum of 25 First Class matches and must’ve retired from the game at least five years ago.
