India’s Test regulars K.L. Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal and Mohammed Siraj, who were part of the tour to Sri Lanka recently, have been added to the South Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy final against East Zone, which will be played from September 6-10 here at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
Apart from the three Test returnees, left-arm pacer C.V. Millind has been added as a cover for Karnataka pacer Vidhwath Kaverappa, who picked up an injury during the semifinal clash against North Zone that concluded on Wednesday.
In the other semifinal, East Zone breezed past defending champion Central Zone to reach the summit clash.
There’s only be one occasion in the past that South Zone has faced the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy final. This happened during the 1970-71 season and the South team won by 10 wickets.
The South Zone has 13 titles to its name, the last one coming in 2023. Meanwhile, the East Zone will be in the hunt for just its third crown, having won the tournament last in the 2012-13 season.
