Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed on 92 off 81 balls during the Duleep Trophy semifinal match between East Zone and Central Zone on Monday.
At 15 years and 157 days, Sooryavanshi could have become the second-youngest Indian to record a First-Class century. Sachin Tendulkar is currently the second-youngest to the mark, slamming his maiden century at 15 years and 230 days in 1988 during a Ranji Trophy match.
The record for being the youngest Indian centurion belongs to Dhruv Pandove, who had notched up a century when he was just 14 years and 293 days old in 1988.
Sooryavanshi still managed to achieve a record during his innings, becoming the youngest to score a half century in the Duleep Trophy. But he fell eight short of a century, looking to clear the deep midwicket fence off Harsh Dubey and holing out to the boundary rider.
