The Sensex fell 290.03 points or 0.37 per cent to 77,182.91 and the Nifty50 was down 74.70 points or 0.31 per cent at 24,133.05 in the closing auction session.
HDFC Bank, Hindalco Industries, and Shriram Finance shares were the top losers in the Nifty50 index.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.05 per cent and 0.06 per cent lower, respectively. Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank, the Nifty Oil and Gas, and Nifty FMCG underperformed, while the Nifty Private Bank, the Nifty COnsumer Durables, and the Nifty Pharma outperformed.
