TNPL 2026 — Jagadeesan powers Chepauk Super Gillies past Salem Spartans; Madurai Panthers stays unbeaten

With its campaign threatening to drift, Chepauk Super Gillies found a way to steady the ship. Captain N. Jagadeesan led the chase with an aggressive 78 to steer his side to a five-wicket win over SKM Salem Spartans at the NPR College Ground here on Wednesday, consigning Salem to a fourth straight defeat.

Asked to bat, Salem was staring down the barrel at 84 for six in the 12th over before Harish Kumar (57 n.o., 35b, 1×4, 6×6) and M. Eshwar (39, 20b, 5×6) breathed life into the innings with a 69-run seventh-wicket alliance. Harish unleashed a stunning assault at the death, smashing 26 runs in the final over as Salem recovered to 182 for seven.

The Chepauk side was handed an early setback when opener Mokit Hariharan fell in the first over. Jagadeesan immediately shifted gears, launching three maximums before joining Ram Arvindh (26) in a 60-run third-wicket stand.

Jagadeesan, though, kept his side in the hunt before Rahil Shah finally broke through in the 13th over. Swapnil Singh (45, 26b, 1×4, 5×6) and Mohana Prasath (16 n.o., 9b, 1×4, 1×6) then finished the job in style, as the Super Gillies completed the chase with 20 balls to spare.

In the evening clash, Madurai Panthers extended its perfect run to four matches with a 21-run victory over Dindigul Dragons. Asked to bat in the rain-shortened 18-over contest, Panthers posted 171 for seven, riding on R. Ramkumar’s blazing 40 off 15 balls, before Rohan Bhutra’s superb spell (two for 23) derailed Dragons’ chase.
