Indian cricketers continue ‘no handshake’ gesture against Pakistan in Under-19 Asia Cup

The Indian Under-19 cricket team continued to snub the customary post-match handshake routine with the Pakistan team during the U19 Asia Cup 2025 match in Dubai.

The Ayush Mhatre-led team triumphed over its counterparts by 90 runs, earning its second straight win in the group stage of the tournament.

There was no handshake during the toss as well, which was delayed due to a spell of rain.

The snub has been a continual activity since the Indian men’s team decided not to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts during the Asia Cup.

Amid rising political tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, and subsequently Operation Sindoor, India and Pakistan faced each other thrice in the Asia Cup, and the Indian team refused to shake hands on all occasions. It continued into the Women’s World Cup 2025 as Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. decided to follow suit.
