With the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) planning to re-introduce double-decker buses in the city, Switch Mobility, which is the electric mobility unit of Ashok Leyland, has commenced testing them on the city roads. A senior official of the MTC said that with electric buses already operational, it had planned to re-introduce the double-decker buses in the electric format. Around 20 e-buses have been planned to be purchased as part of this pilot project. However, tenders are yet to be floated, he further said. OHM Global Mobility, which is another subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, is the operator of e-buses for the MTC. The electric buses are operated on a gross cost contract basis.
