SMAT 2025-26: Scoring a century for Mumbai always means a lot, says Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal looked calm and composed as he built his innings against Haryana on Sunday. Despite Mumbai chasing a tall total, the opening batter took his time before hitting a flurry of boundaries to put the pressure back on the opponent.

“Scoring a century for Mumbai always means a lot,” Jaiswal told  Sportstar. Coming on the back of a century in the last ODI against South Africa, India international Jaiswal failed to keep the momentum going in the previous Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League game against Hyderabad as he failed to capitalise on a positive start, and fell off the last ball of the PowerPlay.

Taking lessons from that outing, Jaiswal planned things differently on Sunday and ensured that Mumbai brought up 100 runs inside the Powerplay, as he forged two crucial partnerships with Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan, before eventually bringing up his century.

“It was an important game for us, and we had to win it, so I am very happy that I could score a century and the team won,” Jaiswal said.

A shock defeat against Hyderabad in the opening match of the Super League dented Mumbai’s chances, but the defending champion rode on Jaiswal’s heroics to stay alive in the tournament.

Mumbai will take on Rajasthan its final game at the MCA Stadium on Tuesday.
