Jewish Australians on why Bondi Beach is a ‘sanctuary’ for them


Two gunmen shot and killed 15 people at a Hanukkah event on Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday.

The suburb has been a “sanctuary” for the community since the end of the Second World War, one Jewish Australian told the BBC.

As mourners visited the area to pay their respects, one woman said the attack was a “violation” of their safe space.
