Indian Car and Motorcycle of the Year 2026 winners announced: Full list

Awards Framework: The Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) awards were instituted in 2005 by experienced automotive journalists to recognise the best all-new vehicles launched in India. The programme later expanded to include Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY), Premium Car of the Year, and Green Car of the Year categories. Each award is decided by an independent jury using a structured voting and eligibility process.

ICOTY 2026: Maruti Suzuki Victoris was named Indian Car of the Year 2026 by a 19-member jury. Skoda Kylaq finished second, while Mahindra XEV 9E placed third. The ICOTY 2026 finalist list included Hyundai Creta Electric, Hyundai Venue, Kia Carens Clavis EV, Kia Syros, Mahindra XEV 9E, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Skoda Kylaq, and Tata Harrier EV.

IMOTY 2026: TVS Apache RTX won the Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2026 award following evaluation by a 16-member jury. Ultraviolette X47 finished second, with KTM 390 Adventure third. Other IMOTY 2026 finalists included the Honda CB 125 Hornet, KTM Enduro R, Royal Enfield Classic 650, and Yamaha XSR 155, reflecting a wide range of new launches across segments.

Premium Car Award: Volkswagen Golf GTI was declared Premium Car of the Year 2026 by the ICOTY jury, finishing ahead of the Toyota Camry. The Premium Car Award, introduced in 2019, evaluates higher-end vehicles sold in India. The 2026 finalists included BMW iX1 LWB, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, MG Cyberster, Skoda Kodiaq, Skoda Octavia RS, Toyota Camry, and Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Green Car Award: Mahindra XEV 9E won the Green Car of the Year 2026 title, ahead of Kia Carens Clavis EV and BMW iX1 LWB. The category focuses on vehicles offering measurable gains in sustainability. The Green Car 2026 finalists were BMW iX1 LWB, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Creta Electric, Kia Carens Clavis EV, MG Cyberster, Mahindra XEV 9E, Tata Harrier EV, and Tesla Model Y.

Jury Methodology: Across ICOTY, IMOTY, Premium Car, and Green Car categories, jury members receive 25 points each, with a maximum of 10 points per model. Points must be distributed across at least five finalists. Only all-new vehicles manufactured or assembled in India, homologated locally, and on sale before November 30 of the previous year were eligible.
