Abhishek Sharma fell just short of Virat Kohli’s calendar-year run record after being dismissed for 34 in the fifth match of the T20I series against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Most T20 runs by an Indian in a calendar year
The Indian opener finished just shy of Kohli’s record of 1614 runs in T20s in 2016. Abhishek ended with 1602 this year.
Abhishek’s runs in 2025 came in 40 innings at an average of 41.07 and a strike rate of 202.01. The Punjab skipper has been a mainstay in the Indian XI since his debut in 2024. He has scored 1081 runs in 32 matches at an average of 36.03 and strike rate of 188.98.
