Will Pat Cummins be fit for T20 World Cup 2026 after missing the rest of Ashes?

Australia skipper Pat Cummins was ruled out of the final two Ashes Tests against England, with his participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 in doubt.

Cummins “won’t play any part in the rest of the series”, coach Andrew McDonald told cricket.com.au.

McDonald added that it was too early to tell whether Cummins would be fit for Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign in India and Sri Lanka from February 7.

“That’ll be an assessment. I’m assuming he’ll have a check-in scan at some point and gather more information around where his back is at… looking forward to the World Cup, whether he’ll be there or not. I can’t really say. It’s quite grey at the moment. We’re hopeful.”

Cummins returned from a lower back injury to lead Australia to victory in Adelaide in his first Test since July, taking six wickets in the match.

“That was a discussion that we had a long time out around his return. Yeah, we were taking on some risk. We’ve now won the series, and that was the goal,” said McDonald.

Australia has already retained the Ashes with eight-wicket wins in Perth and Brisbane and an 82-run victory in Adelaide.
