CID to probe into case of obstruction to police duty, counter-case
The Principal Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Udupi, on December 9, issued warrant against Ashiq, who had failed to deposit in the court ₹20 lakh, with interest, in a road accident case of 2014. The court had asked the Malpe police to secure Ashiq and produce him before the court before December 17.
On December 10, head constable H. Vishwanath, serving as in-charge station house officer of Malpe Police Station, went to the house of Ashiq’s aunt in Chakkulikatte in Uppur in Brahmavar, along with court bailiff, and police personnel, to serve the warrant. Ashiq’s aunt, Uma, and her daughter, Akshata, objected to search of the house for Ashiq. Mr. Vishwanath filed a complaint before Brahmavar police seeking action against Uma and Akshata
Akshata filed a counter complaint seeking action against three police personnel, who were accused of harassing and assaulting Akshata and Uma.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said three police personnel, against whom allegation was made, have been sent on leave.
Meanwhile, Udupi district Billava Yuva Vedike president Praveen M Poojary told reporters in Udupi on Wednesday that the Brahmavar police registered the complaint by Akshata against three police personnel only after protest by several organisations in front of the police station. The police are yet to suspend the three police personnel.
He said the police registered a suo motu case against those who participated in the protest.
Raid at resort
The police also registered a case under provisions of Immigration and Foreigners Act, following a raid at Sankamma Taayi resort in Hanehalli, accusing resort of allowing foreign nationals to stay illegally in the resort. This resort belonged to Udupi district BJP Yuva Morcha president Prathwiraj Shetty Billadi, who participated in the protest, Mr. Poojary said.
Mr. Shankar said organisers of the protest were booked for staging the protest, using loudspeakers, in front of the police station, for which permission had not been given. The SP said notices were served to manager, lease holder and resort owner, asking them to join the investigation. “No new FIR has been registered against them. Based on statements of suspects, they will be added as accused, if found guilty,” the SP said.
