KDA flays CIIL for not giving out Kannada awards

Purushottama Bilimale, Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority (KDA), has criticised the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in Mysuru for not announcing awards for the study, research and promotion of the Kannada language, every year.

The last time these awards were announced was in 2019. In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Prof. Bilimale said that he had discussed the issue with Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan last year and had got an assurance that it would be resolved soon. “This is an instance to show the neglect of the Union Government of Kannada language. “Since no award has been given for Kannada in the last six years, should we think that CIIL has come to the conclusion that there are no deserving people in the Kannada literary world?,” he questioned.
