Defamatory post: Congress leader in police custody

The Chevayur police on Saturday (December 27, 2025) took into custody senior Congress leader and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Political Affairs Committee member N. Subramanian from his house for allegedly sharing an AI-generated photograph depicting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan along with Sabarimala gold theft suspect Unnikrishnan Potti. The police came up with the swift custody action early in the morning.

A case had already been registered after he reportedly shared the digitally altered image on Facebook, accompanied by a caption insinuating a connection between the Chief Minister and the accused. Police sources confirmed that one of the images circulated was created using artificial intelligence tools.

The First Information Report was registered on Friday (December 26, 2025) based on a complaint that the content was intended to provoke conflict and promote enmity between different groups. Accordingly, Mr. Subramanian was booked under Sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 120 of the Kerala Police Act.
