“Shreyas will join the team here on Sunday, and he will be playing in the next couple of games,” Mumbai’s chief selector Sanjay Patil, who is currently in Jaipur with the team, told Sportstar.
This will be Shreyas’ return to competitive cricket after a spleen injury during India’s tour of Australia last October. The India batter spent 10 days at the CoE for the last leg of rehab, and as part of the fitness protocol, he also played in a practice game on Friday, where he did not show any signs of discomfort.

On October 25, Shreyas suffered the spleen injury during the third and final ODI against Australia in Sydney, while taking a catch running backwards from point to dismiss Alex Carey. As he clutched his rib cage, the medical team rushed in, and he was taken off the pitch. Later, he was admitted to the hospital, and the BCCI issued a statement saying that the ‘injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure.’
He started rehab in the last week of November and also attended the IPL auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16, representing the Punjab Kings.
