Aiden Markram on Saturday registered the record for the fastest fifty by a South Africa batter in T20 World Cups, during the match against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.
He notched up the landmark in just 19 balls, breaking the 21-ball record held by Quinton de Kock since the 2016 edition. Yuvraj Singh is the quickest to fifty runs across all teams, reaching the mark in just 12 balls against England in 2007.
This was also the joint-fastest half century in this edition, equalling Dasun Shanaka’s feat against Oman.
On Saturday, Markram’s swashbuckling essay put the Proteas on course to comfortably overhaul the target of 175 runs.
